Evernote for Photographers

Evernote

For some reason, when moving from wordpress.com to a self-hosted WordPress blog, the Evernote for Photographers post was broken. This post is a duplicate, and is missing the comments/trackbacks. Sorry about that.

After creating the little presentation detailing how teachers can use Evernote, I decided to modify it for photographers. I still think 99% of the population can find a way to integrate Evernote into their lives in some way. There are so many different ways to utilize Evernote–find the way that works for you and get organized.

As for photography, use it to store all your client information, release forms, shooting locations, ideas, equipment list (with serial numbers for insurance purposes,) etc.

Sidenote: The presentation was created in Keynote, and some of the coolness was stripped out when exporting to PowerPoint. Sorry about that.

Sidenote #2: The iOS UI has been updated. This presentation still shows the older UI, but the functionality itself is the same. It still rocks.

iOS Photo Editing Apps and Data

I love data almost as much as I love photography, so I want EXIF information to be retained. I’ve noticed recently, while browsing through my Lightroom catalog, that a lot of my iPhone photos are missing information. So I wanted to perform a highly technical and scientific test to see which iOS apps did the best job of preserving the integrity of my photos’ data.

Unfortunately, I lack the patience for highly technical and scientific tests, so this is what I ended up with. I’ve also recently cleaned up the apps on my phone, so I’m only testing the photo editing apps that I chose to retain.

Craigslist and Canon

Back in ’88 I was given a Canon AE-1. That camera was responsible for getting me interested in photography. It was stolen a few years later, and I’ve always toyed with the idea of buying another one just for old time’s sake.

Yesterday, I found someone on Craigslist giving one away, and tonight I picked it up. It needs a little work, but holding that camera brings back all kinds of memories. Shooting Highwood basketball games, scenery, portraits and lightning storms. It was the camera I used for my first photography class in Great Falls. I put hundreds of rolls of film through that camera while I had it.

Macro lenses

50mm-macro-dsc_1356-768

I have this little lens in my bag, and hardly ever take it out. I’m so busy with the wide-angle or standard 50mm lens, that I never really stop to think about getting up-close and personal with the smaller things around me.

Sometimes it’s nice to slow down and really look at the the things you’re surrounded by every day. Then grab a photo. I think I’m going to impose a “macro only” week… For the next seven days, the 7D will only wear the 50mm Macro lens. We’ll see what happens.

Here are the results from this morning:
